A good night's sleep is as important as a healthy diet and regular exercise routine. Researches have shown that those who take good night's sleep are healthy both physically and mentally. Conversely, if you are not sleeping properly, there are increased risks of obesity and other chronic diseases. As per Ayurveda, the amount of sleep we need for healthy functioning varies from individual to individual. Today we have decided to suggest to you some tips to sleep well at night. Let’s see them one by one: -

TIPS TO SLEEP WELL IN NIGHT

REDUCE YOUR BLUE LIGHT EXPOSURE

During the night, our bodies release a hormone known as Melatonin. Melatonin is responsible for giving us peaceful sleep. But the blue light coming from devices such as mobile phones and computers hinders the production of this hormone. This has a disturbing effect on our sleeping cycles. There are ways you can block the Blue Light exposure: -

  1. Wear glasses that block the blue light.

  2. To block blue light on your computer or laptop, download f.lux app.

  3. Stop watching TV before 2 hours of your bedtime.

DON’T CONSUME CAFFEINE AFTER EVENINGS

Caffeine, which is found in Tea and Coffee, helps keep us awake and focussed. But when consumed late in the evenings, this can disturb our natural sleeping cycles. Ideally, we would advise you to not consume any caffeine drink up to 6 hours before bedtime.

AVOID SLEEPING IN DAY

Sleeping in the day disturbs your internal sleeping cycles. Sleeping for more than 30 minutes a day harms the sleep quality and physical health of the individual. So, if you have trouble sleeping at night, check how long you are sleeping in daytime.

DRINK WARM MILK

Take 1 cup of warm milk, and add Ghee, Dates, Cinnamon, and Turmeric Powder. Then before your bedtime, slowly drink this holy concoction. This will help you to drift in peaceful and deep sleep.

FOLLOW A REGULAR ROUTINE

To have a peaceful sleep at night, we would advise you to follow a regular schedule of your meals and bedtime. Always eat your dinner 2-3 hours before your bedtime, and sleep on your left side of the bed. The habit of Nasya & Meditation can also help get a good sleep.
