Introduction

Ayurveda says that if we eat the right food with full consciousness, we can prevent 95% of diseases. However, this is our misfortune that we have forgotten our ancient Ayurvedic texts and mindlessly following the western concepts of diet plans and calculative eating. In the name of dieting, people reduce their meals, cut back on carbs & fats, and exhaust themselves by lifting heavy in the gym. Little do they know, that it can have harsh effects on their internal system.

Ayurveda never says to starve yourself to get in shape, in fact having a lean physique is the by-product of having a healthier lifestyle. We need to understand our body’s Prakriti first, before making any serious changes in diet. Our body can be Vatta, Pitta or Kapha dominant. You can take Ayurvedguru’s  Prakriti Test to know more about your body’s Prakriti.

Here are some DIET tips that  AYURVEDGURU suggests for a healthy lifestyle: -

1.EAT ACCORDING TO SUN MOVEMENTS

Our bodies are biologically set with sun movements. The daily meals should be according to the energy levels of the sun. There’s a saying in Ayurveda, ‘Eat Breakfast Like A King, Lunch Like A Prince & Dinner Like A Pauper’. You should be choosy like a King with your breakfast and prefer eating fresh fruits and dry fruits in the morning. The sun is brightest in the afternoon; therefore, your lunch should be wholesome and heavy. A prince can eat heavy and easily get away with it.

A pauper hardly gets anything for dinner, so CONSCIOUSLY do the same. Just warm some cow milk, and eat light during the night. In this way, you’re setting up your body according to nature.

2. YOUR MEALS SHOULD SATISFY THESE 5 QUALITIES

Ayurveda says your food should have these 5 qualities: -

  1. SATTVIK

According to our sacred texts, there are three types of Aahar, Sattvic, Rajasic and

Tamasic Aahar. The foods that are fresh, non-stimulating and non-constipating are

Sattvik foods. Fruits, Raw Vegetables, Sprouts are some examples of Sattvik foods.

They provide optimum nutrition and completely rejuvenate the whole system.

Rajasic and Tamasic are all the fried, frozen, non-veg food and refined food products.

They lack the most nutrients and comes under the negative category of

foods (according to Ayurveda).

  1. SEASONAL

The food you consume should be in season. If you’re seeing ripened mangoes in winter,

make yourself distant from it.

  1. LOCAL

Don’t buy those fruits and vegetables that are not grown within 120 KM radius of

your city. Ayurveda advises to consume food that’s LOCAL to your area.

  1. FRESH

Ayurveda strictly advises consuming food within 3 hours of its preparation.

After that, the food becomes stale and unfit for consumption. Therefore, avoid

refrigerated food the next day of its preparation. The importance of eating freshly

prepared food has also been mentioned in Bhagwad Geeta.

  1. TASTY

What’s the point of eating if the food isn’t tasty and enjoyable at all? Use fresh

spices along with herbs to make your meals healthy as well as delicious.

P.S. This doesn’t mean that you hop onto Maggi next time. Know that it doesn’t

check the above four points.

3. EAT ACCORDING TO STOMACH NEEDS (NOT CALORIE CHARTS)

Let’s accept it, you cannot follow a diet plan and calorie chart for whole life. But you can follow your stomach for daily calorie needs. If you’re mindful about eating your food, you will know when you’re satiated.

Today, teens and even adults, indulge in playing games and talking over phones while eating their meals. This results in over or under-eating and consequently health problems. There’s no remedy to this, except keeping your all distractions aside and focus only on EATING.

4.DEVELOP HABIT OF USHAPAN (Drinking Water on Empty Stomach in Morning)

Ayurveda advises people to drink warm water on an empty stomach in the morning. This helps in charging up the metabolism and gives you head-start for the day. In Ayurvedic terms, this habit is known as Ushapan.

So, how many glasses should you be drinking? Simple, ASK YOUR OWN BODY. See for yourself, how much water is good for you.
