Ghee god for human body ayurveda

What’s that one healthy food that was originated in India and now has taken over the world? Take some hints, it’s made from milk; Ayurveda says it has medicinal life-giving properties and, our grandparents used to consume it on daily basis without any worry. It is also used in various Ayurvedic treatments. Though it’s rich in antioxidants, loaded with vitamins A, D & E, but was heavily marketed negatively in the beginning of 21st century. You don’t need to be a genius to know what I am talking about, it’s GHEE or CLARIFIED BUTTER.

Many refined oil companies marketed Ghee as health evil to increase their sales but, various health statistics say that problems like obesity, diabetes etc. have increased since refined oils has gotten on our kitchen shelves. Fun fact, Ghee is now sold in supermarkets of US and UK as premium oil. Even the west has agreed to the power of desi ghee. However, there are some myths that revolve around ghee and its effects on our body.

Let’s bust those Ghee myths and learn about wonders it can do: -

  1. Ghee is high in Saturated Fats

Ghee is high in Saturated fats, true, but not of the same kind, we find in butter or other animal saturated fats. Ghee is comprised of Short Chain Fatty Acids (S.C.F.A.), which are instantly assimilated in stomach and gets converted into energy.

  1. Ghee will make you Fat

This one myth prevents so many health freaks and gym goers from eating ghee. Truth is actually really different; ghee contains Conjugated Linoleic Acid (C.L.A.) which cuts down stubborn fat and shrinks fat cells. So, if your goal is fat loss, start eating ghee right away.

  1. Ghee is bad for Heart

Biggest myth ever!! Ghee is loaded with vitamins like A, E, D and other antioxidants, which makes it super heart friendly. Regular intake of ghee improves digestion and metabolism. Ghee has very high smoking point which makes it ideal for deep frying.

  1. Ghee is not for Lactose Intolerants

One of the prevalent myths about Ghee is that it is not for lactose intolerants. However, while preparing ghee, all the milk solids get separated from it, thus resulting in the formation of liquid with all the benefits of milk without lactose properties. Irrespective of your age or gender, you can include 1-2 tablespoon of ghee in your diet.

Combinations with Ghee that must be Avoided: -

  • The combination of ghee and curd should be avoided at any cost. Together, they are meant to cause negative reactions in the body.
  • According to Ayurveda, ghee and honey together will act like poison for your body. So, don’t even think of consuming them in your dreams.

This is what our Ancient Ayurvedic texts say about Ghee: -

“Yatha Jeevet Sukham Jeevet”

“Runam Krutva ghrutam pibet”

TRANSLATION: -As long as you live, live happily, and even if you have to take a loan, ensure that you can drink Ghee.

So, if your nutritionist or cardiologist stops you from adding ghee in your food, it’s time to change him. Experienced Ayurvedic Practitioners will never stop you from consuming Ghee.
