Submitted by Amit Sharma on Fri, 03/06/2020 - 16:53

Holi is on the way, and we all are super excited for it. There’s no other festival as much maddening and fun as Holi. This is the only time when you can afford to go a little crazy. Today, AyurvedGuru has decided to give you some tips on how to have a safe and fun Holi this year. We are also going to tell you, how to make some herbal colours at home, which aren’t harsh on the skin. They are simple to make, 100% natural, and won’t take your much time.

HOW TO MAKE HERBAL COLOURS: -

YELLOW: Mix turmeric powder with Gram Flour in 1:2 ratio to make dry yellow ‘gulal’. You can crush Marigold flower and combine it in water to make wet yellow colours.

GREEN: In order to get that lovely green colour, you can use mehendi powder. Also, you can mix henna powder with water to prepare a liquid green paste.

RED OR MAGENTA: Beetroot can be effective in preparing red or magenta gulal. Prepare a thick beetroot paste with water and keep it under sun for some time. You can mix it with gram flour or white flour and then use it to play Holi without second thought.

SAFETY & PREVENTION TIPS FOR SAFE HOLI: -

  1. Apply mustard oil all over the body, a day before Holi. Mustard oil is helpful in keeping your body’s skin protected and it is easy to remove ‘gulal’ from slippery skin. Also, apply coconut oil on your hair, which helps protect them from any damage.
  2. If the colour gets into your eyes, rinse it with cold water thoroughly. It is advised on Holi to wash eyes at regular intervals. If there's itchiness due to colour, put some droplets of rose water in your eyes and lie down for half an hour. This will provide you some relief.
  3. To remove hard colour from your skin, don’t rub it hard with water or soap. This can worsen the condition of the skin. It is advised to be gentle on your skin with good quality soap. Apply a concoction of curd and limewater on the coloured-skin areas. Wash it off with lukewarm water and then take a bath.
  4. In case you have allergic rashes on your skin, apply the thick paste of flour, sweet oil and rose water on the affected area. Wash the dried paste after some time, and see the magic.
  5. Play Holi in safe areas like Park and not on roads or areas of traffic. Also avoid using your vehicles, as the roads are usually slippery and become reason for many accidents.
