Sinusitis is inflammation of the air cavities within the passages of the nose. Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinuses. It is often caused by bacterial (germ) infection. Sometimes, viruses and fungi (molds) cause it. People with weak immune systems are more likely to develop bacterial or fungal sinusitis. Some people with allergies can have "allergic fungal sinusitis." Acute sinus disease lasts three to eight weeks. Sinus disease lasting longer than eight weeks is considered chronic.

Causes for Sinusitis

It can be due to infection, allergy, or autoimmune problems. Most cases are due to a viral infection and resolve over the course of 10 days.

1. Nasal polyps :- These tissue growths may block the nasal passages or sinuses.

2. Allergic reactions.

3. Deviated nasal septum.

4. Trauma to the face.

5. Respiratory tract infections.

6. Allergies such as hay fever.

7. Immune system cells.

Symptoms for Sinusitis

Many symptoms are the same, including headache or facial pain, runny nose and nasal congestion. Unlike a cold, sinus disease symptoms may be caused by bacterial infections. Some common symptoms are Postnasal drip, Discolored nasal discharge (greenish in color), Nasal stuffiness or congestion, Tenderness of the face (particularly under the eyes or at the bridge of the nose) , Frontal headaches , Pain in the teeth , Coughing , Fever , Fatigue , Bad breath

Diet & Lifestyle

1. Drink fluids, such as water or juice. This will help dilute mucous secretions and promote drainage.

2. Sleep with your head elevated. This will help your sinuses drain, reducing congestion.

3. Have freshly-prepared and easily-digestible warm food, lots of vegetables, and fresh fruits.

4. Avoid cold, heavy, oily foods, cold drinks, chocolates, ice cream, cold water, etc.
