3 Avagaaham: Body or limbs are immersed in specially formulated herbal oil. This will help to speed up the process of healing and helps in reducing inflammation. 4 Basti: (Part of Panchakarma treatment) Ayurvedic enema which involves specially prepared oils, herbal concoctions and milk per perenium in order to detoxify, cleanse or supplement the lower part of the body. Method : Basti is the introduction of medicated liquids into the colon through the rectum. While it directly effects the colon, its is not a localized or symptomatic treatment.Benefit : Basti therapy is the most effective treatment for disorders arising from abdominal vata. This includes chronic constipation, low back pain, sciatica, rheumatism, gout, arthritis, hemiplegia, poliomyelitis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's Disease, multiple sclerosis and dystrophy and atrophy of nerves and muscles. 5 Elakizhi: Soothing music used for therapeutic reasons. Helps in restoring body harmony and imbalances leading to disease. Method : It is a process in which herbal leaves are tied in a cloth bag. 6 Gandoosham: Herbal oils are sipped and held in the mouth for a few minutes. This helps restore health of teeth and gums. Method : Gandoosha, gargling with sesame oil (or oil pulling) is a way of restoring oral health and is a common daily recommended activity in accordance with the principles of Ayurveda. The process should be carried out in the morning on an empty stomach, preferably after brushing thoroughly. 7 Greeva Vasti: A paste is made out of medicated oil and flour. This is then applied to the back of the neck, low back etc, to help lower localized radiating pain.(see also netra tarapan ). greeva-bastiMethod : A reservoir made of black gram dough is built up on the neck which will cover all the vertebrae of neck and 2-3 vertebrae of thoracic region. After ensuring that this is leak-proof, lukewarm medicinal oil, which alleviates pain and strengthens the bone and joint tissues, is slowly poured into it. When the oil cools down, it is squeezed out with cotton gauze and the procedure is repeated a few times. 8 Hridya Vasti: Specially prepared herbal oils are pooled over the chest area for a certain period of time. It is used in respiratory and cardio vascular conditions. Method :  Hridayahridya-vasti Basti or Uro basti is retention of the medicated oil on the chest wall. Specially prepared warm medicated oil (Dhanwantharm oil) is poured over the chest wall and retained inside for 30 to 45 minutes.This form of external Basti particularly benefits muscle and rigidity of the chest wall and strengthens the bone tissue in that area. 9 Janu Vasti: Specially prepared herbal oils are pooled over the knee area. Helps in improving circulation, arthritis, joint lubrication, sprains etc. Method : Janu Vasti is One of the most effective treatment in reliving the pain and rejuvenating the joints. A procedure which involves warm herbal oil stagnated over the affected Knee for 30 minutes followed by a skillful massage and fomentation. 10 Karna Puranam: A specially prepared herbal oil bath for the ears. This helps with vertigo, tinnitus, jaw locks, headaches, earwax etc. Method : Karna Puranam is the process of healing ear problems with warm herbal oils.Treatment begins with a vibrant head and neck massage, followed by a gentle massage to the ears. Then the ears are gently cleaned with cotton buds and few drops of Herbal medicated Ayurvedic oil is poured into ears. Once the cavity of the ear is completely occupied with the oil, the person is requested to rest in the position to allow the oil to get absorbed. 11 Katti Vasti: A specially prepared herbal oil bath for the lower back. Helps with osteoporosis, sciatica, lubrication and flexibility, deep relaxation etc. Method : Warm signature oil is poured into a black gram dough ring and placed on the spot of pain or discomfort. 12 Ksheera Dhoomam : Specially medicated Cow’s milk fomentation applied to the affected area. Helps in conditions like facial paralysis, speech problems and other neurological disorders like asthma. Method : In this treatment medicated cow milk is mixed with suitable drugs and heated. The steam coming out is made to pass through a tube/pipe and is applied over the affected part of the patient’s body. 13 Kunjal Kriya: Controlled vomiting involving drinking warm slightly salted water until the stomach is full. It is done early morning on an empty stomach. 15 Marma Chikista: Ayurvedic acupressure and contour massage. Mainly for overall rejuvenation. 16 Nasya: Part pachkarma therapy. It is the administration of herbal preparation into the nose. Helps in disorders relating to the brain, head and mind. This treatment eliminates the toxins from the head and neck region. 17 Navara Kizhi: Medicated paste applied and massaged all over body. Helps with joint aches, muscle tension, paralysis etc. Navara KizhiMethod : Navarakizhi is a treatment using medicated milk-porridge (medicinal rice called navara) made into a bundle (kizhi). The kizhi is dipped in a mixture of milk and medicinal decoction and is applied all over the body. Benefits: This has a nourishing effect on all the joints and is said to revitalize the body . 19 Netra Tarpan: Dough of black gram flour is used to make a well like feature around the eyes. Once the dough is set over the eyes, ghee is put in. This helps in a number of eye problems like conjunctivitis, squinting, burning, dryness, watery etc.Netra TarpanMethod : In This Treatment eyes are bathed in pure medicated cow’s ghee.Ayurvedic Netra Tarpana, where freshly made dough rings filled with fragrant oils are placed around the eyes and one has to keep the eyes open so the oils run into them. 21 Patra panda Swedanam: Process whereby either whole body or part of it is made to perspire using external application of medicinal boluses that are tied in a bag of cloth. 22 Pichu: Pichu and shirovasti are theoretically the same except for the modes of application which vary slightly. Both treatments are for ailments affecting the region above the neck, especially due to disrupted vata dosha. Pichu is also used to treat some ailments of the crarnial nerves. PichuMethod : Cotton cloth is soaked in warm oil and then placed on the affected part of the body for a few minutes. The cloth is constantly kept warm by pouring warm oil over it. This therapy is very helpful for localized pain in muscles and joints. Also helps with deep relaxation. 23 Pizhichil: Full body massage using cloth that has been dipped in specially prepared herbal oils. This therapy is helpful for joint conditions, paralysis, poor circulation and chronic muscle tension. PizhichilMethod : It is a gentle and synchronized body massage, which is done with constant flow of warm herbal oil. 25 Purva Karma: Approximately two week before starting the vigorous panch karma therapies, you may be given advice on how to prepare your body for therapies. 26 Shiro Abhyanga: Ayurvedic head, neck and shoulder massage. 31 Udvartana: A herbal massage of either chick pea flour mixed aromatic herbs and a little bit of oil or just dry herbs mixed with oil. This mixture is gently massaged into the skin. 32 Uzhichil: Oil massage done to the whole body for a period of 14 days taking a break on the 8th day allowing the body to detoxify.
