Cervical Spondylosis, also known as neck arthritis or cervical osteoarthritis, is usually an age-related problem that affects the neck joints. It results due to wear and tear of the cartilages and bones of the cervical vertebrae.

We put our bodies through a lot of stress and strain every day, and over the years, this can change the various structures of the spine and can lead to one of the spine related diseases, Cervical Spondylosis. Over the time, the lubricated fluid between the discs of the spinal cord gets reduced. This results in breakage of discs and wear and tear of bones and cartilages of the neck. As a result, osteophytes- an unwanted growth of bones is generated, which narrows the cervical vertebrae. A cervical vertebra is an opening where the spinal nerve exists.

Risk Factor

Though aging is an understood factor for Cervical Spondylosis but there are some other factors also like neck injuries, some genetic disorders in the neck region, accumulation of fat, etc. which may lead to the same.

Sign and Symptoms

For most people, Cervical Spondylosis shows no symptoms. But, when symptoms occur, these generally include:

  • Pain around shoulder blade due to prolonged sitting.
  • Pain along arms and fingers.
  • Severe pain on tilting the neck back.
  • Pain while sneezing, coughing and lifting arms.
  • Stiffness around the neck area.
  • Loss of bowel or bladder control.
  • Ache in the back of the head.

Diagnosing Cervical Spondylosis:

Diagnosing Cervical Spondylosis include both physical examinations and medical tests. The physician or the spine specialist may conduct a thorough examination of the neck, hands and the arms region to check the strength, flexibility, sensation and reflex action of these body parts.

  • Massage rub the affected area with mustard oil processed with 2-3 garlic cloves, twice daily
