Diabetes Mellitus or Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic disorders which is growing at an alarming rate. In Diabetes, the body is unable to make appropriate utilization of glucose bringing itself to a state of hyperglycemia (high glucose). Accumulation of excess glucose in the blood ultimately results in high level of glucose being present in urine (Glycosuria) which increases the urine output and leads to dehydration, weakness in the body and increased thirst. Diabetes is a situation in which neither the pancreas produce enough amount of insulin nor effectively uses the produced insulin or both.
There are basically two types of Diabetes depending upon the insulin’s effect: Type-1 Diabetes is insulin – dependent diabetes which develops before the age of 30 while Type-2 Diabetes is insulin-independent Diabetes which is seen in almost 90 % of population above the age of 40.
Diabetes known as Madhumeh in Ayurveda is regarded as “Maha Rog”. If it is not treated timely, it can cause various other diseases like low vision, kidney failure, sexual problems and many more.
