What is Hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) is a condition in which your thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine. Hyperthyroidism can accelerate your body’s metabolism significantly, causing sudden weight loss, a rapid or irregular heartbeat, sweating, and nervousness or irritability.

What causes Hyperthyroidism?

A variety of conditions can cause hyperthyroidism. Graves’ disease (an autoimmune disorder) is the most common. It occurs more often in women and tends to run in families. In Graves’ disease, antibodies stimulate the thyroid to secrete too much hormone. Other causes of hyperthyroidism include:

1. Excess iodine (iodine is needed to make T4 and T3)
2. Inflammation of the thyroid gland (thyroiditis causes T4 and T3 to leak out of the gland)
3. Tumours of the ovaries or testes
4. Benign tumours of the thyroid or pituitary gland
5. taking large amounts of tetraiodothyronine (through dietary supplements or medication)

How supplements can help?

Several treatment options are available if you have hyperthyroidism. Doctors use anti-thyroid medications and radioactive iodine to slow the production of thyroid hormones. Sometimes, treatment of hyperthyroidism involves surgery to remove all or part of your thyroid gland. Although hyperthyroidism can be serious if you ignore it, most people respond well once hyperthyroidism is diagnosed and treated. Patients suffering from diagnosed and already tested hyperthyroid get very good treatment developed by Vaidya Ayurvedguru.

General Symptoms For Hyperthyroidism:

1. Sudden weight loss, even when your appetite and the amount and type of food you eat remain the same or even increase
2. Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia) — commonly more than 100 beats a minute — irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) or pounding of your heart (palpitations)
3. Increased appetite
4. Nervousness, anxiety and irritability
5. Tremor — usually a fine trembling in your hands and fingers
6. Sweating
7. Excessive Hair Loss.
8. Changes in menstrual patterns
9. Increased sensitivity to heat
10. Changes in bowel patterns, especially more frequent bowel movements
11. An enlarged thyroid gland (goitre), which may appear as a swelling at the base of your neck
12 Fatigue, muscle weakness
13 Difficulty sleeping
14 Skin thinning
15 Fine, brittle hair

Older adults are more likely to have either no signs or symptoms or subtle ones, such as an increased heart rate, heat intolerance and a tendency to become tired during ordinary activities. Medications called beta blockers, which are used to treat high blood pressure and other conditions can mask many of the signs of hyperthyroidism.
